Event Postponed

RESCHEDULED DATE UPDATE (12PM 16th Sept):

Due to many runners deferring to an event next year we have reopened a limited amount of online entries in all of our events for the 8th/9th October, 2022. We will be explaining the reasoning for this in more detail on this page later on today.

UPDATE: 6.30PM 14TH SEPT

UPDATED 2:55pm 9th Sept

Dear Runners,

Statement from Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.

"In light of government guidance for the mourning period and as a mark of respect for Her Majesty The Queen, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew has taken the decision to postpone this weekend’s GoFundMe Richmond RUN-FEST. Kew Gardens is a Royal garden with a long-standing connection to the Royal Family and we share our heartfelt sympathies with the Royal Family at this time. We very much hope to reschedule this event and we will be working with the organisers on new dates. Further updates will be provided by GoFundMe Richmond RUN-FEST."

Statement from Race Director, Tom Bedford.

"I'm writing this sad message from a now empty field that would have been your finish line. I'm absolutely gutted from the bottom of my heart that the event was cancelled so close to race day. I feel so sorry for all runners who have trained so hard for this weekend. Keep training, as I am currently working hard on a rescheduled event date in the next 3/4 weeks. Once we find a date that works for stakeholders we will be in touch with you with various options (by hopefully early next  week). We know a few of you have expressed a wish to run the event virtually this weekend. If you would like more information on this click here. Please bear with us as we are a small family run team and we need some time to organise a new event with various stakeholders and contractors. Thanks again for your patience and please appreciate we do not have all the answers yet but I promise you we will run again. I will be back in contact with you very soon."

Below is our original statement...

The passing of Her Majesty The Queen yesterday has left us all deeply shocked and saddened. We are now in mourning for our longest reining Monarch who dedicated her life to our Country and our sincere condolences to the Royal Family.

This weekend was to be a celebration of months of training, fundraising and personal dedication, however it is with broken hearts that we are having to postpone this weekend.

The GoFundMe Richmond RUN-FEST event is hugely unique and we are proud to be in the Borough of Richmond, running through Royal Botanic, Gardens, a location owned in part by Historic Royal Palaces and a floral tribute to the Queen in Old Deer Park. It is for these reasons that the events now can not take place and this event will have to be re-scheduled.

It takes a year of dedication to put on this event but nothing will compare to the disappointment you will be feeling at having your race postponed and we are devastated that this is the final outcome. We are a family run business and we can assure you for our 10th year anniversary of this event we have tried every possible avenue to put this event on.

You will have many questions as to the next steps but please bear with us while we navigate this and work on an alternative date. This is not a straight forward process as a date needs to be agreed by two boroughs and two Royal venues (to name a few) plus contractors and partners.

Thank you for all your kindness and support and our condolences go out to the Queen's family and everyone in mourning at this time.

Kindest regards,
RUN-FEST Team
